Good Evening Roosevelt Families,
As a reminder, Hispanic Heritage Month is an annual celebration from September 15 to October 15 to commemorate the history and culture of the U.S. Latinx and Hispanic communities and their influence and contributions to American society. Hispanic Heritage Month actually began as a commemorative week when first introduced in June of 1968 by California Congressman George E. Brown to recognize the contributions of the Latinx community. In 1987 U.S. Representative Esteban E. Torres of California proposed expanding the observance to cover its current 31-day period. In honor of the end of Hispanic Heritage Month, here is a mini bio of Sonia Sotomayor, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.

Mascot Change Committee Information
More big news! We are going to look into changing our Rough Rider mascot. The Rough Riders were a group of wealthy men organized by President Theodore Roosevelt to create chaos in Cuba during the Spanish American war and committed acts of violence. There were many positives about President Roosevelt, but it is our opinion that the Rough Riders were not emblematic of the IB ideals that we subscribe to. Please email me at email@example.com if you are interested in joining the mascot change committee.
Here are the forms that all students most complete that were sent from the district:
English Universal Form
Spanish Universal Form
Correction from last week: Please email your forms to Ms. Barajas at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you!
