Peace One Day

According to the UN, "Each year the International Day of Peace (IDP) is observed around the world on 21 September. The UN General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, through observing 24 hours of non-violence and cease-fire. Never has our world needed peace more."

A celebration of peace

Roosevelt International Middle School has been recognizing and celebrating International Day of Peace, held September 21st annually, since becoming an authorized Middle Years Program School by the International Baccalaureate Organization.

The IB philosophy fosters International Mindedness through a conceptual framework where students learn through various global contexts. The International Day of Peace is closely linked to the global contexts of Fairness and Development and Globalization and sustainability.

Each year on this day, students have time to reflect on their own experiences of peace and to experience peaceful activities as a school community.

Peace Day activities at Roosevelt have included mindful movement, art, dance, discussion, and music. Check out the photos from the 2023 Day of Peace from photographer Lisa Nelson-Sherwood and drone footage from Sergio Lang below.
