GATE at Roosevelt International Middle School

Our International Baccalaureate Program is recognized worldwide as an academically rigorous program that prepares students to be successful in higher education and careers. In addition to the inquiry-based, creative, and enriching education that we provide to all of our students, we also provide differentiation for students identified as GATE. Complementing IB training, Roosevelt teachers hold GATE certification. This provides all students with classrooms that are engaging, full of depth, complexity and challenge, in the content areas with teachers providing the differentiation needed for student success.

GATE Identification Process

Roosevelt operates under the San Diego Unified School District's GATE identification process by utilizing the CogAT assessment battery with students in grades 2-5. This includes all second graders (universal testing), students new to the district in grades 3-5, and re-testing for fifth grade students who meet a certain criteria, based upon their initial GATE assessment result. In 2009, the Board approved the elimination of GATE testing after the fifth grade; therefore, we will utilize existing assessment data from a student's prior district, and the new student multi-criterion process, for any students new to the district in grades 6-12.
